Clarity Privacy Policy

Clarity ("we," "us," or "our") is a financial stress prediction tool built to help you understand what's coming before it hits. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

We built Clarity with a simple principle: collect the minimum data needed to give you a useful forecast. Nothing more.

1. What data we collect

Account information

Email address
Name (first name only)
Password (stored as a one-way hash — we cannot see it)

Financial profile

Monthly income (amount only — no employer, no account numbers)
Fixed monthly expenses: rent, car payment, subscriptions, loan payments
Pay frequency (weekly, biweekly, monthly)

This is entered manually by you during onboarding.

Goals and spending

Goals you create (type, name, target amount, progress)
Expenses you manually log (amount, category, description)
Debts you add (name, balance, interest rate, minimum payment)

Bank statement analysis (optional)

When you upload a bank statement:

The file is sent over encrypted HTTPS to our secure server
Our AI reads it to extract: income amount, recurring bills, subscription amounts, spending category totals
The original file is never stored. Only the extracted summary numbers are saved to your profile
Before any statement text is sent for AI analysis, we automatically redact long digit sequences (account, card, and routing numbers), Social Security numbers, IBANs, and email addresses. The original file is never stored, and only the extracted summary numbers are saved to your profile
You can skip bank statement upload entirely — it is always optional

Technical data

Session tokens (for keeping you logged in)
Error logs (to fix bugs) — these do not contain financial data

2. What we do NOT collect

Bank account numbers or routing numbers
Credit card numbers or payment card data (Stripe handles all payments)
Social Security numbers
Investment account details
Full transaction histories
Your physical address
Phone number
Any biometric data

3. How your data is stored

All data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL), a SOC 2 compliant database platform
Row Level Security (RLS) is enforced on every table — it is technically impossible for one user to read another user's data
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest (AES-256)
Your AI-generated forecasts and insights are cached for up to 7 days, then automatically deleted
Bank statement analysis results are stored as summarized numbers only — never the original file

4. How we use your data

We use your data only to provide the Clarity service to you:

To generate your 4-week financial forecast
To power AI insights about your spending patterns
To track progress toward your goals
To show you your spending history

We do not:

Sell your data to anyone
Share your data with advertisers
Use your data to train AI models
Share your data with third parties except as described below

5. Third parties we use

6. AI and your data

When you generate a forecast or AI insight, we send a summary of your financial profile to Anthropic's Claude API. This includes:

Income amount and pay frequency
Fixed expense totals (not individual merchant names)
Goal name and progress
Spending category totals

We explicitly do not send: your name, email, account numbers, individual transaction details, addresses, or any bank statement content.

7. Your rights

You have the right to:

Access your data

Delete your data

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, goals, expenses, debts, bank summaries, and account from our systems within 24 hours.

Correct your data

You can edit your financial profile, goals, and expenses directly in the app at any time.

Export your data

Data export is coming in a future update. In the meantime, contact us for a manual export.

8. Data retention

9. Security

We take security seriously:

Row Level Security on every database table
Anthropic API key stored server-side only — never in the app
All AI calls go through secure Edge Functions — your data never touches the AI directly from your browser
Stripe handles all payment processing — we never see card numbers
Regular security reviews of our database policies
HTTPS enforced on all connections

If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to security@clarity.app. We will respond within 48 hours.

10. Children

Clarity is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it immediately.

11. Changes to this policy

We will notify you by email if we make material changes to this policy. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
